Masses of Thanksgiving

26825 UK - THANKSGIVING MASS 2018 half page.indd

To celebrate 100 years of Columban mission, the Columban community in Britain held a Mass of Thanksgiving in Birmingham on 25 November 2017 and in London on 30 June 2108, to open and to close our celebrations.

More than 1200 people – friends, partners, benefactors and supporters – joined us for two wonderful Eucharists, to give thanks to God for the blessing of 100 years of Columban mission. Called to communion has been the Columban vision since our last General Assembly in 2012 and each Mass felt like a family reunion, a gathering of people excited and passionate about God’s mission and the challenge of crossing boundaries of language, culture and religion to share Gospel joy with all.

Our thanks to all who attended and participated in these memorable events. Particular thanks are given to Archbishop Bernard Longley and Archbishop Peter Smith, who were the main celebrants at the Mass in their diocese, to the parish of St. Catherine of Siena, Birmingham, where the first Mass was held, and to the staff and volunteers of St. George’s Cathedral, who gave us such tremendous support.
