‘Faith in Action’ Volunteer Programme

This programme offers a year of personal development and growth, putting faith into action through projects connected to justice and peace education, asylum seekers/refugees and inter religious dialogue. It includes a significant overseas visit (previous volunteers have visited the Philippines and the US/Mexico borderlands).

Columban JPIC in ParisFor 2015/16, Columban Justice and Peace Education included Julia Corcoran, our ‘Faith in Action Volunteer’, shared with the Catholic Youth Ministry Federation (CYMFed). Read about her visit to the Columban Lay Missionaries here. Read her reflections on visiting the borderlands here.

Julia said, “I really enjoyed my time with the Columbans. I learnt so much about the church, justice and peace, missionaries, refugees/migrations, a number of different organisations and mostly I learnt a lot about myself and what my strengths are.”

For 2014/Anna-lobbying-on-climate-change2015, Columban Justice and Peace Education included Anna Brown, the first ‘Faith in Action Volunteer’. She spent a year volunteering with us and St Mary’s University Chaplaincy. Learn about her visit to the Philippines here and here.

Anna said, “Being the ‘Faith in Action Volunteer’ has been an amazing, varied role with lots of opportunities to learn and grow in my understanding of justice and peace. I would highly recommend this role to anyone who wants to grow in their faith and understanding of how this can be actively lived. It’s a year of learning, collaborative working, varied experiences, work with young people and lots of fun!”
