Pakistan’s highest civilian award given to Columban priest
Australian born Fr Robert McCulloch, of the Columban Missionary Society, has been awarded the Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam, the highest civilian award that can be given by the Government of Pakistan to foreign nationals. It carries the citation, “For services to Health, Education, and Inter-Faith Relations”.

PHILIPPINES: Mindanao Declaration on Mining
“Defending the Dignity of Life, Securing our Future” was the title of a workshop held in Mindanao, the Philippines, in January 2012 focusing on the impact of large-scale mining. It called for a mining moratorium in the light of negative impacts on local communities and the environment.

Columbans celebrate CAFOD’s 50th Anniversary
Columbans Peter Hughes and Eamonn O’Brien concelebrated at CAFOD’s 50th anniversary mass in Westminster cathedral on Saturday 28 January. The principal celebrant was Archbishop Vincent Nichols, with 18 bishops and around 100 priests present. Ellen Teague, who worked for CAFOD in the 1980s, joined the choir. This is her report.
