Columbans support opposition to a new gold mine in Peru

The Columbans have written to the Peruvian ambassdor in London to protest the ill treatment of a human rights and environmental activist who opposes the proposed Conga gold mine.
Fr. Marco Arana Zegarra was brutally beaten by riot police on Wednesday 4 July as he sat on a bench in Cajamarca town square in a silent vigil. He was then arrested without a warrant of arrest.
