Operation Noah, the ecumenical Climate Change campaign, is holding its annual supporters’ meeting on Saturday 13th July in Central London 10.30am – 4.30pm.  All are welcome.

Columban JPIC has supported Operation Noah since it started twelve years ago, especially since campaigning on Climate Change is an element of Columban mission.

The morning – at St Aloysius Church Hall, 20 Phoenix Rd, Euston – will start with a short AGM from 10.30am to 11.15am. Nominations for the Board of Trustees must be received by Monday 8th July. People are sought with skills in fundraising, campaigning and parliamentary lobbying work.

Then Operation Noah’s exciting new national campaign will be introduced, followed by guest speakers Ann Pettifor and David Atkinson. The talks will explore whether churches should continue to hold substantial financial stakes in the fossil fuel sector – covering the financial context of unburnable carbon, the ‘Green New Deal’ and investment in the environmental sector, and the churches as agencies of change. There will be a chance to feed in ideas and questions to help shape the campaign.

In the afternoon there will be opportunity to look at how to communicate effectively about climate change and the new campaign to help build a network of ambassadors and supporters to take forward the campaign messages across local communities.

Ann Pettifor is Director of Policy Research in Macroeconomics, a fellow of the New Economics Foundation and Executive Director of Advocacy International, which advises governments and organisations on international finance and sustainable development. She is known for her leadership in the worldwide Jubilee 2000 campaign to cancel the debts of the poorest countries, and is also a former campaigns director of Operation Noah.

David Atkinson is Honorary Assistant Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Southwark and author of the book ‘Renewing the Face of the Earth: theological and pastoral responses to climate change’.
