Fr Colum Kelly, the Apostleship of the Sea chaplain for Immingham Docks, has sent us some photos of seafarers receiving their 2018 Columban calendars. This is the fifth year that the Columbans have sent calendars to port chaplains for free distribution to seafarers at Christmas.

It all began at a meeting of Catholic charities in London, where a discussion with an Apostleship of the Sea representative revealed that seafarers love calendars and, as many of them are from the Philippines, they might find the Columban calendar of particular interest.

Today, the Columbans send calendars to four of the port chaplains and we are delighted to be able to provide the calendar for their pastoral mission to seafarers at Christmas. Alongside, Fr. Colum Kelly, we send the calendars to Rev. Roger Stone in Southampton, Douglas Duncan in Aberdeen and Patricia Ezra in Felixstowe.

We were not the first to have the idea though.  Full credit must go to John Caruana and Kent Area Justice & Peace, long-time Columban supporters, who have been supplying calendars to the port chaplain and Filipino seafarers at Medway docks for many years.
