Take a Step for Fairtrade Fortnight
15th February 2012 - by Ellen Teague
Fairtrade Fortnight runs from 27 February to 11 March 2012. What can you do to make a difference to the lives of farmers in the developing world who grow the products you buy?
Each step brings a change
Fairtrade Fortnight encourages people to tell others about the FAIRTRADE Mark, increase sales of Fairtrade products and raise awareness about trade justice.
1st steps
Start buying Fairtrade coffee and tea.
Buy more Fairtrade products in your weekly shop.
Encourage your friends and family to switch to Fairtrade tea, coffee or sugar.
Share news about Fairtrade on Facebook and Twitter.
2nd step
Find out if there is a Fairtrade Town campaign where you live and get involved. Is your diocese a Fairtrade Diocese? Is your parish a Fairtrade parish?
3rd step
2012 will kickstart a whole year of Fairtrade activities. You don’t have to stop at the Fairtrade Fortnight – you can take a Step for Fairtrade at World Fair Trade Day (12 May 2012) and throughout a summer of Fairtrade activities.
You are not alone
Six out of ten consumers in the UK believe their own shopping choices can make a real difference to the lives of farmers and workers in poorer countries. Four out of five people say that they look to companies they deal with to help reduce poverty through the way they do business. According to latest market research figures current awareness of the FAIRTRADE Mark is 77 per cent.
The Fairtrade Foundation licenses use of the FAIRTRADE Mark and provides resources to help with the promotion of Fairtrade – www.fairtrade.org.uk. Fairtrade Fortnight is supported by CAFOD – www.cafod.co.uk and Traidcraft – www.traidcraft.co.uk.
