The Lord of the Manger
For the past ten years I have been working in a livelihood project with a group of Subanen artisans. Every year we design Christmas cards that simultaneously celebrate the story of God’s Creation and the story of God’s Incarnation. This year the Subanen artisans are carefully crafting images of Jesus in the manger within five ever-expanding settings from the tiny stable in Bethlehem to the vast heart of our spiraling Galaxy. While they craft cards, I have the task of crafting a reflection – with a lot of help from St Francis – about the meaning of their cards.

Has Christmas failed?
The big question that can be asked about Christmas is… has it failed? Two thousand years after the birth of the boy from Nazareth, who grew up as the son of a village carpenter, turned spiritual revolution, his heart turning message of universal rights, peace and justice has seemingly been rejected, ignored or compromised.

Mission Spirituality
For me, Columban spirituality is based on a call to be human. God created every person to be human, in God’s own image.

Spirit of God
God the Holy Spirit is the experience of God in our daily lives – a God who touches, inspires and urges us to be present to each other in our joys, pains and sorrows. God is a Spirit who helps us experience and appreciate our planet and re-create or re-generate the places we have tried to destroy by our ignorance and greed.

November prayers for the Dead
During the month of November, the Columban community places lists of the dead before the Altar in our chapel and are remembered during our Masses.
