The financial costs of flooding could rise in both the UK and the rest of Europe, increasing the annual flood bill by up to £82 billion across Europe. (Association of British Insurers).

Take action: Tell Tony Blair to Stop Climate Chaos.
You can help Stop Climate Chaos by joining thousands of others in sending a message to the UK Government to live up to its responsibilities.

1. Please write to your MP. Urge them to ask Tony Blair to publicly state his support for legally binding targets to cut greenhouse gases, both at home and internationally.

2. Write also to the Prime Minister:

Dear Prime Minister,

Without urgent action, climate change will devastate life on earth. Hundreds of millions of people, particularly the world's poorest and most vulnerable, will be put at severe risk of extreme weather, drought, flooding, starvation, and disease.
The UK must play its part in preventing this devastation. It must:

· Ensure UK greenhouse gas emissions fall substantially, year-on-year, from now on.

· Do all it can at the international level to ensure global greenhouse gas emissions are irreversibly declining by 2015.

· Make sure that as part of eliminating poverty, poor countries are given all the assistance they need to supply clean energy to their people.

1. ACTION AT HOME - The UK must:
Deliver substantial and sustained annual reductions in UK greenhouse gas
emissions from now on. This will require a carbon budget to track and manage
greenhouse gases emitted by the UK as a whole.
Meet its own long-standing target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by
2010.
Contribute its share towards meeting the EU-wide greenhouse gas reduction
target of 30% by 2020.

2. ACTION INTERNATIONALLY - The UK must:
Make it a top priority to ensure global greenhouse gas emissions are irreversibly
declining by 2015. It must pursue this goal with maximum effort in international
discussions on climate change.
Fully support the Kyoto Protocol and the development of targets within it. The
Protocol is the only realistic framework for meeting the 2015 target.

3. ACTION FOR JUSTICE - The UK must:
Do everything it can to assist developing countries, which are most at risk from
climate change, to adapt to its impacts and deal with climate-related disasters.
