AITECE Teachers’ Comments

“There is no doubt that I see the world differently as a result of my experience in China. Just the ordinary things we do as human beings, because we care for one another, meant so much to the teachers and students. My experience of sharing, whether it was something as simple as a smile or a quiet conversation, made me realise that the energy and time were definitely well spent.” An Irish teacher

“I live in an apartment for foreign teachers where everything possible is done to make us feel at home. We enjoy freedom in our personal lives and in our work. Our great reward is the experience of teaching talented, dedicated and exquisitely courteous young men and women. It’s a teacher’s paradise, in spite of the numbing cold of the totally unheated classrooms during Kansas-like winters.” —A U.S. professor.

“Being a Christian in China today presents a special challenge. We can go there only on the terms by which China is ready to accept foreign assistance -- as educators or technical experts. We can offer our skills and our knowledge and while we are there we can live the “good news” in our daily lives. When we are no longer needed we will be asked to leave and we will leave empty handed. It is the challenge to give freely what we have received, sowing a seed and then moving on, leaving the harvest to the providence of God.” —A teacher from Canada.
