Go and see Al Gore’s film, An Inconvenient Truth. In the film, the former US Vice President tours the world in a bid to alert nations to the imminent dangers of irreversible climate change. According to the film's publicity material, "If the vast majority of the world’s scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced."

The July 2006 issue of the New Internationalist was titled,
CO2 NNED - Carbon offsets stripped bare. The editorial suggests that carbon offsets "not only don’t solve climate change, they can even worsen it by delaying the inevitable need to end the fossil-fuel frenzy we’re all a part of".  See extracts on www.newint.org.
